In the grand tradition of Pye Records’ many pop orchestras comes The Tony Currie Orchestra with its debut album Race The Sun (NSPL 1826). A big sound of strings and brass with an eclectic repertoire from composers that include Tony Hatch, Brian Fahey, Johnny Scott, Johnny Harris and Sidney Bechet; all given the TC sound by arrangers Callum Au, Gavin Sutherland, Richard Niles (who also contributes a guitar solo) and the late Johnny Harris. Since 1980, few labels anywhere have invested in this very expensive genre, preferring to reissue material from the 70s. But now the big pop orchestra is back and fit for the 21st Century.
